Hey guys!
I was cleaning out my car the other day and decided to replenish the little “essentials kit” I keep in my trunk. I know, this is a reallllyyy random blog post, but hang in there, you may find some of this info useful!
Back when I first started working and was still living with my parents, I’d often crash at friends’ houses and so my car was essentially my second closet. So many shoes, an extra toothbrush, change of clothes, etc. You name it, I had it. I’ve since scaled down considerably, but I do think it’s a good idea to always keep some essentials on hand so you’re prepared for whatever the day brings. So, I’m going to share with you what I keep in my car and hopefully will inspire you to make a little “essentials kit” so you never are stuck without something you need!
THINGS I KEEP IN MY CAR:
In the Trunk:
I have a little storage compartment under my “real trunk” that has a tire jack, spare tire, etc. Here’s what I keep in there:
- Blanket (good to keep on hand when transporting dogs & in case of emergency, MN winters, amirite?)
- Snow scraper
- Paper towels (it’s never a bad idea to have a roll of these on hand – I’ve learned through experience)
Then, in the main part of my trunk, I have a little decorative tin that I use as my “essentials kit” with the following:
- Scissors (you never know when you may need them, but good for emergencies)
- Hand warmers
- Band-Aids
- Ibuprofen
- Deodorant (just don’t leave it in there over the summer)
- Toothbrush, toothpaste and floss (just one of those little bags from the dentist)
- Pen & paper
- Tampons
- Migraine meds
- Mini hairbrush
- Nail File
- Wet Wipes
In the Console/Dash:
- Sunglasses (always)
- Glasses (I hate not having any when driving at night, so I always keep a spare pair in my car)
- Cash
- Napkins
- Chapstick
- Pepper spray (in case I need to walk somewhere alone at night)
- Hand sanitizer
- Lint roller
- Gum
- Phone Charger
- Peppermint oil or bio freeze (for my migraines)
- Scrunchie
- Extra face masks*** (the 2020 addition to this list I started a very long time ago)
Okay, after typing all of that out, I realize it seems a little crazy. It’s a lot, but in reality it barely takes up any space and was stuff I already had multiples of and/or had on hand. I can be pretty forgetful, so having backups of things and being prepared for whatever really helps set me up for success!
What do you guys keep in your cars? Here are some items our readers submitted:
- Sunscreen
- Blotting sheets
- Makeup removing wipes
- Tide stick
- Bobby pins
I hope this inspired you to clean out your car and make a little “essentials kit” so you’re ready for whatever!
XO, Anna
